Orange Poppy Seed Cookies

Happy weekend!

It's a nice day to bake something fresh and sunshiny--like a batch of Orange Poppy Seed Cookies perhaps? Part tangy, part sweet, each cookie tastes like a bite of sunshine. This recipe is adapted from Simply Recipes. Instead of orange zest, I used orange extract instead.

Don't forget to enter my Happy 1,000th Blog Post giveaway. It ends on Feb 28.

Orange Poppy Seed Cookies

  • 2/3 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of butter, room temperature
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon orange extract
  • 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon  baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds

Method

1 Beat together  butter and sugar until well blended.

2 Add the egg and the orange extract. Beat for thirty seconds and mix well.art way through to ensure even mixing.

3 In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly sift it into the butter mixture until combined. Add the poppy seeds.

4 Place heaping teaspoonfuls on a baking sheet.

5 Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes or until just turning golden around the edges. Remove from oven.

Yield: 3 1/2 dozen cookies.

  2. These sound AMAZING! I'm going to try this for sure. Wonder if I could use orange juice somehow instead of orange extract, though... guess I'll try!

  3. Sorry I lost touch for a while Christy. I really like the sound of your cookies. I am rather partial to lemon and poppyseed muffins too, so I am sure I would like these. I really like how you have presented them too. x
