Coffee Month Crafts & Recipe

by - Sunday, January 08, 2012

Today's downcast, cloudy weather calls for something sweet and comforting--like a cup of coffee and a mini bag of homemade cookies. Mix in a few sewing crafts and the day is perfect!

I love this recipe from Martha Stewart's Holiday Cookies magazine. The original recipe calls for 1 and 1/2 tsp baking soda but reduced it to 1 tsp as I found the baking soda-ish aftertaste quite too much.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, unsalted and softened
1 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
12 ounces chocolate chips

1. Preheat oven to 375 F. Whisk to combine, flour, baking soda, and salt in  bowl. In a separate bowl beat butter, granulated and brown sugar sugar until fluffy. Add egg and mix in vanilla.

2. Add flour mixture and blend well. Stir in chocolate chips.

3. Bake in parchment lined cookie sheets for 15 minutes until done.Transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

Coffee Cup Cozy

There are a lot of coffee cup tutorials out there but this pattern from House on Hill Road is my favorite as it  snugly fits my eco ceramic coffee cup.

Coffee Pot Trivet

I have no pattern for this is I used a coffee themed fabric panel as reference and some heat insulated lining. It doubles as an oven mitt too.
